In a reserved judgment, Mr Page, S.M., convicted George Harold Bennett (40), a barman, for using the private bar of the Alhambra Hotel for the purpose of betting, and fined him £ls. The fine may be paid at the rate of £1 per week. A relief worker named Lawrence Chapman, on a charge of carrying on business as a bookmaker, was committed to the Supreme Court for trial. The alleged offence took place at a whippet race meeting at Tawa Flat on September 4. COUNTERFEIT COINS. WELLINGTON, Sept. 29. Albert Henry O’Malley (37), a. labourer, was committed for trial on a charge of uttering a counterfeit coin, knowing it to be counterfeit, and having another in his possession. Both coins were half-crowns.
