A pretty London girl, Aifiss E. M. Stead, climbed on board the White Star liner Majestic, as it was leaving Southampton docks recently for New York, from a tug in which she had completed an exciting race from London against time and tide. Delayed by traffic hold-ups, Miss Stead arrived at Waterloo in time to see the boat train disappearing. She at once chartered a fast car and was driven to Southampton inside an hour and threequarters—touching 60 m.p.h. on the way. The liner was 50 feet away from the quay when Miss Stead’s car drew up, ana she dashed on to the waiting tug.
