ROWING

WM. EVANS MEMORIAL DOUBLE SCULLS. Last evening the second semi-final of the Wm. Evans Memorial Double Sculls was completed. The contestants were J. Moffttt’s and Ray Bracefield’s crews. Conditions were in favour of the oarsmen, and the race was rowed over the intermediate course. Both crews made a good start, but Moffit, gradually assumed the lead over the first stage of the course, having an advantage of half a length on entering the mouth of the harbour. Bracefield drew up slightly in the race down to the wharf, only to lose the advantage again when his bow knifed badly. Moffitt’s crew again quickened their stroke, and drew away from their opponents to hold two lengths’ lead at the end of the wharf. Moffitt finished an easy winner by two and a half lengths. The final of the race will be contested this evening at 6.30, between crews stroked by Roily Bracefield and J. Moffitt.
