OBITUARY.
THOMASA A. MUNRO. The death occurred with tragic suddenness on Monday afternoon of Mi' Thomas Alexander Munro, one of the best known figures in North Otago. Mr Munro attended the jubilee celebrations of the Kurow School at Kurow. but during the jubilee banquet he complained of feeling unwell, and left for home, where he collapsed. When met by friends prior to the banquet, Mr Munro appeared to be in the best of spirits, and the news of his death was learned with the deepest regret. Mr Munro was 64 years of age, and was born at “Rugged Ridges,” on the Waitaki river. For many years past, he had been farming a property known as “Sunny Peaks.” He was of a frank and generous nature, and was very popular with all sections of the community, having during the past 25 years devoted a great deal of his time to public affairs. He was chairman of the Kurow Domain Board and a member of the Kurow Jockey Club, of which he had held the position of president for a number of years. His association with farmers included a long term as a member of the Otago Land Board. Mr Munro’s public activities were not confined to the Kurow district for he represented the country residents on practically every local body in Oamaru. For some years he was a member of the Waitaki High School Board of Governors, and at the time of his death he was a member of the Waitaki County Council, the Oamaru Harbour Board, the Waitaki Electric Power Board, the Waitaki Hospital Board, the North Otago Soldiers’ Aid Association, the Oamaru Jockey Club and the Oamaru Trotting Club. He is survived by his widow, a daughter (.Mrs D. E. Neave), and three sons, Arthur, Ronald and Cecil.
