Miss Stanford. Wanganui, is the guest of Mrs J. E. Winter, Douglas Street. Miss A. Easton. Dunedin, has arrived to stay at the Balmoral. Miss A. C. Whitelield, Fairlie, is at the Balmoral. Mr and Mrs J. R. Faulls, Christchurch, are at the Dominion. Mr and Mi's A. E. McDougall, Dunedin, are registered at the Grosvenor. Miss M. Andrew, Christchurch, is a guest at the Grosvenor. Miss M. Livingstone, Dunedin, is staying at the Grosvenor. Miss A. Houchan, Auckland, has arrived to stay at the Grand. Mrs Mason and Miss H. Hanner, Wellington, are staying at the Balmoral. Mrs Frank Wise and Shirley, Christchurch, are spending a few days at the Dominion. Mr and Mrs J. W. Fraser and family, North Canterbury, are registered at the Grand. Miss Mavis Herbert. “Marama,” Heriot, is the guest of Mrs C. J. LeCren, Grey Road. Miss Janet MacKellar, who has been staying with Mrs A. E. Kerr, “Belmont,” Cave, has returned to Dunedin. Mrs L. Cohen, Wellington, arrived yesterday, to stay with her sister, Mrs D. Murchison, Fairview. Miss Connie Flamank, LeCren’s Terrace, has returned from a visit to Christchurch. Mrs R. R. Beauchamp, who has been on a visit to Timaru has returned to Tekapo. Mr and Mrs R. Jenkins (Selwyn Street) left yesterday to attend the wedding of their son, Gilbert, to Miss Edna Gill (Remuera, Auckland). Mr and Mrs Hector Scott, Wai-iti Road, have returned from a visit to Tekapo. Mrs Polhill and Miss Kitty Polhill, Rotherham, who have been staying with Mrs Colin Douglas, Waimate, have returned north. Miss E. G. Islip and Mrs Neilson and family, Woodlands Road, have returned from Governor’s Bay, where they have been spending the holidays. Miss E. H. Lee, Girls’ High School, who has been on a visit to England, returned to Timaru on Monday and is staying at “Crcomlea,” North Street. Mrs Pridie and Miss Helga Pridie, England, who have been staying with Mrs Orford, “The Downs,” Geraldine, are spending a few days at the HermitThirteen English boroughs have conferred the honour of Mayor on women. Among the women chief magistrates is Miss F. A. Farmer, who is Lord Mayor of Stoke-on-Trent. The engagement is announced of Elizabeth Wanaka, daughter of the late Major R. R. Bowie and of Mrs Bowie, of Timaru, to Samuel Donald, eider son of the late Mr Chris. Atkinson and of Mrs Atkinson, of Cashmere. Among the passengers on the Makura, which arrived at Wellington on Monday from Sydney, was Lady le Fleming, of Dunedin, who since last May, in her capacity of an archaeologist, has visited Norway, Sweden, Esthonia, Finland. Latvia, and Denmark, and who has investigated mysterious ruins in the heart of East Africa. In 1930 she also visited many countries, and travelled 40,000 miles in seven months. She is now on her way home for a rest necessitated by injuries which she received in a motor accident.
