INTRUDER IN HOUSE.
WOMAN INTERRUPTS SPEAKER’S PRAYER. By Telerraph—Areas Association WELLINGTON. March 15. Just as the Speaker commenced to recite the opening prayer in the House of Representatives this afternoon, a woman in the front row of the ladies’ gallery rose and began to speak excitedly. An orderly quickly approached the disturber, and she resumed her seat until the prayer was completed. Thereupon she again attempted to address the House. Her remarks were barely audible, but she violently tore up a document, exclaiming: “There’s your Child Welfare Act,” and flinging the pieces on to the floor of the House. It is reported that in the course of her earlier remarks she referred to “a young girl who plunged into Auckland harbour rather than continue to be a State ward.”
Two orderlies approached the woman, who was well-dressed and middle-aged, and she left the gallery under their escort without further disturbance.
