BRIDGE NOTES.
(By William Shackle.) Twelve Test Hands. In order to help those players who really wish to make their initial bid informatory and exact, I am giving below six test hands which require bidding. and next week, a further six hands will be given. To the player who gives the largest number of “correct” answers, I shall have the pleasure of sending a memento in the form of a propelling pencil. I use all those recognised conventional bids, as explained in my previous articles, and also majority bidding, i.e. (1) Bid of 1 of a minor suit—on two aces.
(2) Original bid of 2 of a minor suit —when strong in 3 other suits, but weak in suit declared.
(3) Informative doubles. (4) Robertson rule of 21 points for No Trump bid.
(5) Raise or deny partner at first opportunity.
Send all entries to me c/o Box 362 Christchurch, by not later than Saturday, April 4th. No correspondence can be entered into respecting these solutions, as they are, of course, my own rulings, there being no such thing as “correct” bidding—though, of course, most really good players would bid very much alike. However, I shall be very pleased to answer any queries relative to them, if a stamped addressed envelope is enclosed.
