S.C. HUNT CLUB.

ANNUAL MEETING. The forty-ninth annual meeting of the South Canterbury Hunt Club was held yesterday afternoon when the Master (Mr C. L. Orbell), presided over a fair attendance. In formally moving the adoption of the report and balance sheet, (which has already appeared In the “Herald”), the chairman referred to the loss of Mr E. R. Guinness, who had been a keen follower of the Hunt In his early days. Last season's hunting would compare very favourably with that of any past season, the pack being a credit to the huntsman. They had very good weather and fields, the only places where they did not have good fields being In the Fairlle and Geraldine districts. Their monetary losses over two meetings was £270, and sooner than run any more risks, he personally would be In favour of dropping the race meetings. The financial position of the Hunt was not good. They could not go on losing money as they had done in the last two years: It was the biggest farce that they charged only £2/2/- as subscription to the Hunt Club. They should raise it to four or five guineas. They were practically bankrupt now, and they had to look ahead this year, if the Hunt was to carry on. He wished to thank the farmers of South Canterbury, who were very good to them, and put up with a lot In the way of unshut gates. Thanks were due to the committee, secretary, all honorary members, the Canterbury Jockey Club for a gift of £SO, and also others who had helped by providing trophies. Mr W. J. Bassett seconded the motion. The motion was carried. Election of Officers. The election of officers resulted:— Master, Mr G. L. Orbell; committee, Miss B. Harper, Messrs A. S. Elworthy, 11. H. Elworthy, H. Elworthy, M. C. j Harrier, M. Maze, W. H. Orbell, R. ] Bassett, R. T. Morris, F. F. Neale, R. I Murphy, R. M. Burdon, S. K. Gillingham, H. J. LeCren, and A. G. Macdonald,

On the motion of Mr H. Elworthy, it was decided that the Club should hunt over the usual district during the coming season, but that it be a recommendation to the committee that the Hunts be run on as economical lines as possible.

It was decided to hold the opening meet in the second week of April,
