HELP THE DIGGERS.

To the Editor of the “ Timaru Herald.* Sir.—Mr Leadley has evidently decided to do something for the battered, war-worn “Digger.” Having had experience of R.S.A. secretaryship since 1917, he is in a unique position to know the trend, both politically and socially, of the Government’s attitude towards the good chaps whose patriotism in the grey war days has left them in a more or less acute condition of distriss. His remarks at the Geraldine meeting anent the proposed “Rehabiliation Board” are true to the spirit of Anzac; that is, we who are reasonably fit and recovered from our exertions of yester year, should help our less fortunate “cobbers.” This is best brought about by Recalling and putting into practice the old motto “Union :‘s Strength.” Lee as rally round the old Association that we once honoured and now shamefully neglect. Let the Returned Soldiers' Association become fcuch a financial organisation that we may help ourselves and others whilst allowing a Kindly but sensible Government to help us at the same time. I hope, Sir, that these few words will leach people who just need a spur and an incentive to make them realise their moral and social obligations.—l am, etc., N.Z.E.F. Geraldine, August 30.
