Mrs J. Foster, Christchurch, is on a holiday visit to Timaru. Miss Olive E. Edginton returned from Wellington on Tuesday.

Mrs J. W. Adams, Wai-iti Road, has returned from a visit to Dunedin. Miss Joan Lee, Christchurch, will leave for England in the Rangitiki in April.

Miss Nancy Orbell, “The Croft,” Park Lane, will leave on Thursday on a trip to England.

Mrs J. Peter, Geraldine, who was the guest of Mrs ft. Ensor, Rangiora, Is spending a few days in Christchurch.

Mrs ancT Miss Black, who have been staying with Mrs Russell King, Sophia Street, have returned to Nelson. Mrs Turnbull, Christchurch, will arrive to-day to spend a few days at “Cadogan,” Sefton Street. Mrs C. R. Orr-Walker, Sefton Street, has returned from a visit to the North Island.

Miss Janet Studholme has returned to Waimate after a short visit to Mrs R. L. Orbell, “The Croft,” Park Lane. ■ Mr and Mrs J. F. Quinn, Wellington, are the guests of Mrs C. Hall, Harper Street, and will leave for Wellington on Thursday. Mrs D. Burnett and Miss Marawill Burnett, Hakataramea, are spending a few days at their home in Wai-iti Road.

Miss Fynes-Clinton, Invercargill, who was the guest of Mrs F. Newton, Maltby Avenue, returned south yesterday.

Mrs George Rhodes, “Beverley,” Christchurch, who has been staying with her daughter, Mrs B. H. Howell, Cave, returned home on Monday. Mrs G. Isaacs, Sydney, and Miss Alison Johnston, Wellington, will leave to-day on a short visit to Mrs Geoffrey Rich, Cave. Rev. A. C. W. Standage and Mrs Standage and son returned to Dunedin after having spent their holidays in Timaru, the Hermitage, and at Lake Ohau.

The Hon. Joyce Montagu is off to I South Africa with her mother, the Dowager Lady Swaythling, to stay with Princess Alice and the Earl of Athlone at Government House, Capetown. WEDDINGS. QUIRKE —SU QRUE. On January 29th, the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Geraldine, was the scene of a pretty wedding, the contracting parties being William Joseph, second son of Mr and Mrs William Quirke, Orari and Catherine Veronica, fifth daughter of the late Mr and Mrs John Sugrue, Belfleld. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Father Herbert. The bride, who was given away by her • brother, Mr Stephen Sugrue, entered the church wearing a pretty frock of ivory georgette, with hem, yoke and cuffs from the elbow, of radium lace. A swathed belt was fastened at the side with a diamante buckle. An embroidered veil was arranged with a coronet of orange blossom, and the bride carried a bouquet of choice madonna lilies and maidenhair fern. Shoes and stockings to match completed the toilet. The bride was attended by her sister, Miss Grace Sugrue, who wore a pretty frock of green crepe de chene, falling in points at the hem, the long sleeves being finished with pointed cuffs. With this she wore a picture hat of the same shade, and carried a bouquet of a delicate shade of stocks and asparagus fern. Mr Austin Quirke, brother of the bridegroom was best man. Following the ceremony, a reception was held at the bride's home, when the usual toasts were honoured, Father Herbert presiding. Miss Sugrue received the guests wearing a frock of navy celanese and lace, and hat to match. The bridegroom’s mother wore a navy tailored costume, and black hat, and she carried a bouquet of carnations. Mrs J. O’Connell, sister of the bride, wore a navy celanese frock and fawn hat. Mrs J. P. Horgan (.Milton), sister of the bride, maize coloured georgette and tailored ceat with hat tc tone. Mrs J. Sugrue, the bride's aunt, black face cloth costume, anc black hat. Mrs J. J. Guerin, bridegroom’s sister, wore a becoming frock of Sahara celanese and smart browr hat. Miss Annie Quirke, beige lace frock and beige hat. Mrs Leigh, the bridegroom’s aunt, wore a black celanese coat over a floral frock, anc a smart black hat. Later, amidst showers of confetti the newly-wedded couple left for thi south on a motor tour, the bridi wearing a pretty frock of russe celanese, tweed coat and hat to r»-*eb MATTHEWS—RUDGE. On Wednesday evening last St. Mary’s Church, Timaru, was decorated with sprays of copper beech, flamecoloured gladioli, and marguerite daisies, when Helen Marie, youngest daughter of Mr W. F. and the late Mrs Rudge, was married to Francis Cleaver, elder son of Mr and Mrs Frank Matthews. Rev. H. W. Monaghan officiated and Miss Sylvia Rudge was organist. The bride, who was given away by her brother (Mr A, Rudge), wore a charming model gown of triple silk ninon and lace, made with fitting jodice and skirt with daintily scalloped lem line dipped to ankle length at the jack. Her tulle veil was arranged ,o form a Juliet cap, and was caught with bands of ribbon and a cluster of orange blossom. A touch of colour was introduced by a blue and crystal necklace, and a crystal and diamente ornament to match at the waistline. She carried a sheaf of madonna lilies, mingled with fern and streamers of blue and white. The only bridesmaid, Miss Alice Wolff, wore a delphinium blue georgette frock. The bodice was designed with a bertha collar caught at the shoulder with a gold tissue buckle, and a fully-flared skirt had an uneven hem line. A coronet of gold lace and tulle was finished with clusters of multi-coloured flowers. She wore gold shoes and stockings to tone and carried a posy of gold abutolin and gladioli. Two little flower girls Misses Betty and Joan Rudge (nieces of the bride), were frocked alike in buttercup crepe-de-chene made with bertha collars and frilled skirts, picot-edged. with blue and long streamers of blue ribbon. They wore gold silk net caps finished with posies of blue forget-me-nots, and carried golden baskets of abutolin and gladioli. Mr Alex Miller, was best man. _ _

A reception was held at “The Stafford,” where Mrs V. Roberts (sister of the bride), received the guests wearing a smart frock of floral crepe-de-chene with a flared skirt of uneven hemline, and a beige hat to tone. She carried a posy of pink roses and gladioli. Mrs Matthews (mother of the bridegroom, wore a model frock of gold crepe de chene with uneven hemline formed by shaded silk fringe to tone and a black hat. She carried a posy of gold roses and gladioli. Miss Sylvia Rudge wore a frock of floral chiffon in tones of blue, gold and pink, with blue hat to match. Later in the evening, Mr and Mrs p C. Matthews left by motor-car for their wedding tour, the latter wearing a blue and beige ensemble and a beige hemp-straw hat.
