HEENEY DEFEATS HOFFMAN. (United Pr**«» A«sncimt;on—By EUet?'« T**l«Brrupli—Copyright.) NEW YORK. September 26. Tom Heeney 2071 b (New Zealand), defeated George Hoffman 18611 b. (U.S.A.) on points in a ten-round contest. The Fight. In the first round, Heeney forced the fighting, playing for the body. Hoffman, who was \ the former amateur champion, backing away. Heeney’s round. In the second round, the fighters wrestled round the ring awkwardly. Hoffman landed blow for blow. Heeney winced. Hoffman scored with two rights. Hoffman’s round. In the third round, Heeney forced the fighting. Heeney’s round. In the fourth round, Heeney continued to drive for the body. He forced Hoffman to the ropes and j pounded him. Hoffman crossed a hard | right to the jaw, making Heeney’s j knees sag. Blood was drawn from the j New Zealander's mouth. The round ( was even. In the fifth round, it was a slow fight with much prancing and no telling blows landed. Hoffman became aggressive, beating Heeney to the punch. Hoffman’s round. The sixth round was a wrestling match for the mest part. Hoffman broke Heeney’s nose with a hard right,; and the round went to Hoffman. In the seventh round, Heeney opened a cut under Hoffman’s eye, I with a right, and hammered him on ‘ the ropes. Heeney’s round. In the eighth round, Heeney shook Hoffman with a left to the jaw. and beat him to a punch. Heeney’s round. In the ninth round, Hoffman was ? missing badly, and Heeney getting in fought savagely. Heeney’s round. Heeney was the stronger and was i carrying the fight to Hoffman, j Heensy's round.
