WAIMATE.

ARMISTICE DAY. Members of the Waimate Returned Soldiers, Territorials and Cadets, fell in at 10.20 yesterday morning, and, headed by the Waimate Silver Baud, marched to the St. Paul s Methodist Church where a service was conducted bv the Rev. J. H. Haslam. ‘ The Mayor and Councillors attended divine service at Knox Presbyterian Church, where the service was conducted by the Rev. W. F- Nichol. In his address, Mr Nichol said these memorial clays helped them to get. a true perspective of the past events they endirined. Ten years from the Great War enabled them to see things they were unable to sec at the time. The loyalty and the spirit of the Great Empire, as illustrated in the war, stood out dearly to-day, and was a sufficient answer to those’ who might be pesimistie. The great hulk of our men whoso deeds were written on the scroll of fame came from the common people and the spirit of patience and endurance displayed by mothers and \\ ives was another evidence of this. Ine war illustrated, too, the buoyancy of true principle. The war was a contest between principles rather than nations, and ultimately truth and righteousness triumphed. Lastly, the war revealed a. power outside of 'the events themselves. The God who led us m the was the God who showed hiniselt to us in' the war years They took these messages from out of the past, and on this day reconsecrated themselves to those ideals for which the Empire fought and for which our men died.
