CHRISTCHURCH NEWS
(From Our Own Corvespondtnt.) CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 11. ROUGH WEATHER. Carnival week was hardly over before the fine weather ended with a crash. Light showers fell on Saturday, but the afternoon was pleasant enough. At six o’clock, however, there was a heavy downpour, which lasted for two hours. Sunday was -fine, till a heavy thunderstorm came up at five o’clock, and prospects are most unpromising. CLOSING INFANT ROOMS. The action of the Health Officer in ordering the exclusion of primary school children, from Standard 1 down-_ wards, from the schools, is being ciincised by somo headmasters, who point out that in several city schools no cases of scarlet fever have occurred for some weeks past. The headmasters could see no reason for closing down schools where no cases had occurred. A protest was made against children being allowed to attend places of amusement while they were not allowed to attend school. ARMISTICE DAY. Armistice Day was celebrated to-day by a parade of Territorials and Senior Cadets in Hagley Park, where an address was given by Bishop WestWatson. Ti c two minutes’ silence was impressively observed, the firing of a tJl ii marking me beginning and end of the period. There were appropriate references to the occasion at all the city churches.
