MR BALDWIN’S STATEMENT.

(United Press Association —By Electrio Telegraph—Copyright.) LONDON, May 1. In the Bouse of Commons, in answer to a question, Mr Baldwin stated that a report had not been made concerning the wireless and cabe conference. No offer-had been made direct to the Government for the purchase of the wholo Imperial means of wireless and telegraphic communication. It was understood that certain suggestions in that direction had been submitted to the conlerence.

Mi- Churchill, in answer to a question, said ■he had carefully, considered admitting Empire Hydro carbon tips free, or at a reduced duty, but the practical benefit of preference on bavy oils would be negligible, wliilo il would greatly complicate the working of the tax. He had therefore decided against a preferential duty.
