MOTOR CYCLING TESTS.
The first motor-cycle trial in Germany was held on February 20 over a 1J kilometre track oil the ice of the lake called “Eibsee,” in the Bavarian Mountains. The Eibsee was rather rough, and the cars and motor-cycles which started were subjected to a severe trial. The Munich Sunbeam exponent, Kagerer, easily won the 350 c.c. race, while in the 250 c.c. class a Bayerland-Villiers, which make is gaining much ground in Germany, gained a second prize. Another first prize fell to a 49S c.c. A.J.S. driven by Bussinger. A more important event was tbe road race held on March 20 at Eilenriede. 'The practising took place on the day previous to the race, and every rider had to do at least six laps to qualify in order to be allowed to start. At this meeting German riders of British machines gained some considerable successes. In the 350 c.c. class Kagerer was again first, his average speed being 87.9 km.p.h., or approximately 54.5 m.p.h. over 20 laps of the course; the total distance was about 62 miles. Second place went to another Sunbeam rider, Paetzold. Then followed Tlievis, riding a machine of his own construction fitted with a J.A.P. engine. In the other classes, a Blackburneengined Boge was first, a B.M.W. second, and a Villiers and J.A.P. engine in German frames put up good performances in being each third. There were no fewer than 50,000 onlookers at this race, which is nearly, if not quite, a record, and the exciting racing provoked much enthusiasm.
