FAIRLIE.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) ANZAC DAY. The Anziie Day service was held in the Public Hall on Monday. Despite the very unpleasant weather, a large number were present. Air C. J. Talbot presided, and the address was given by the Rev. C. G. Wilcox. An apology was received from Rev. it. do Lambert, who was absent, in a distant part of liis parish. The Fairhe Brass Band accompanied the singing of the hymns. “O God Our Help in Ages Past;” ’‘The Nameless Grave;” and “Kipling's Recessional.” The National Anthem brought the service to a close. VALEDICTORY. On Tuesday evening, a. large number nr friends gathered to bid farewell to Mr J. J. Finnertv, a member of the Post Office stall', who has been transferred to Wellington. Several speakers testified to the excellent qualities of Air Finnerty, who had proved himself a most obliging and courteous official. Afr Finnerty was also everreadv to assist at any social function in the district, and would be a loss ill this direction. Air T. W. Brown (postmaster) made the presentation of a solid leather case, and expressed keen regret at. losing so capable an officer, and wished him every prosperity in the future. Air Finnertv'suitably responded, and expressed regret at leaving Fairlie. where he had spent a very happy two years. THE WEATHER. The weather has now settled after a very stormy week-end. A heavy gale nas experienced on Sunday night, but apart from damaging a. lew stacks and blowing down a few trees, no material damage was done. Heavy rain set in early on Monday morning, and continued' throughout the day. Sharp frosts have been experienced on Tuesday and AYedmv'V.y mor.Vr/'Js. ENTERTAINAIENTS. The townspeople will be well served with entertainments in the near future. On Friday, the Oddfellows ball will be held, and on Saturday evening, the “Follies of 1927” will be staged m the Aorangi Hall. On Tuesday, 26th Alay, the annual hunt ball "ivill bo hold in Aorangi Hall.
