BURIED TREASURE.
“BANKED” IN FOAYLTIOUSE. by T-rf'Ps Association CTIRISTCHPCH, April 28. A story of buried treasure —money burined in a lowlhoiise—was told in the Magistrate’s Court to-day. Alary Eliza Sturgess (77), widow, of Sumner, claimed from l’eter Hoglund, her nephew, to recover the sum of £192. Sho claimed that her husband, who had once lost money in a bank failure and refused to trust banks thereafter, had buried £lB5 in a fowlhouse. After liis death, she fell ill, and was removed to hospital. At this time, she declared, Hoglund dug up the treasure, and also took other cash (£7), a gold watch, and other property. Hoglund’s storv, told in evidence, was that he dug up the money at Mrs yturgess’s request; that there was only £BS there; and lie expended £35 for Mrs Sturgess. He proffered £SO in Court in settlement..
The Magistrate accepted defendant’s evidence, and found accordingly.
