BUY A TRIUMPH FOR RELIABILITY , • , Model “P’» -no mechanical stops. fi -no repairs. k TRIUMPH DEPOSIT & \ Constructional Details of the 4.94 h.p. Model “P” TRIUMPH The 4.94 h.p. TRIUMPH ha 3 proved absolutely reliable in the hands o{ novice and expert alike. It has demonstrated to many thousands of riders the economy of motor cycling and the pleasure to be derived from a machine of unfailing service. The simplicity of this famous TRIUMPH model and the absence of complicated functioning parts permit of great strength and consequent long life. . The big end bearing is a heavy duty roller bearing, and as each one is separated from its neighbour in the cage there is no semblance of binding ; consequently, at whatever speed the engine is running, the bearing is perfectly free, well lubricated, and long service is assured. The main shaft is supported by ball races securely housed in the die cast aluminium crank case. The connecting rod is of special heat treated steel, and the piston of fine grain cast iron. The cylinder, of specially selected fine grain cast iron, is designed with the wall part thick to avoid distortion and to dissipate heat. The valves, which are made of the finest cobalt chrome steel, are of large area to ensure unrestricted flow of the gasses, and the cylinder head is so formed to create “ turbulance ” and thus give full effect to the explosive mixture at the moment of firing. The tappets are adjustable to provide a close setting. The front brake has been re-designod. This is of the internal expanding type. The transmission is by all chain drive, and to remove any possible harshness from the .drive, an efficient shock absorber is fitted on the engine shaft. The flexible running of the engine, correct distribution of weight, effective suspension of the front portion of the machine by means of efficient spring forks, all contribute to make this a delightful machine to handle.
