The Dutch drifter Theodora was overwhelmed by a gale in tho North Sea and half filled. The skippere, Toom was injured in the thigh and taken below, and the crow manned tho pumps until tho ship began to sink. Then they prepared to abandon the craft. Tho skipper appealed to bo taken on deck, but tho crew ignored him, saying they had no time. They went overside leaving him to his fate. Captain Toorn dragged himself on deck, fastened .some planks to a barrel, and when tho Theodora sank ho saw a lad struggling in the water and took him upon his shoulders. lie clung to the raft for five hours, when a German trawler picked tho pair up. Tho lad died half an hour later. The remainder of the crew were drowned. Captain Toorn is in hospital at Shields. TRAWLERS SLINK BY STORM. TWENTY-FIVE LIVES LOST.
