Recent awards of the wage hoards in the clothing, confectionery, sweets and biscuit industries, raising wages all round, and. in some, cases more than 100 per cent, have caused much perturbation among manufacturers, especially as they ar e accompanied by more stringent regulations and conditions of employment. The secretary of tho Feclemted Chamber of Industries states that if the principles laid down are carried out Diev will sound the death knell of industrial' development.
