The twenty-third half-yearly meeting of tho South Canterbury Drill let, MU I 0.0.1 f., was liekl in tho Oddfellows’ Hall, Timaru. Delegates pregent were: —*Loyal Timaru, i .1 .G.JM s. 13ros. A. Oborn, Jas Hinipson, it. IToden, and A. Gooda.ll, and 1.0 s. J. 13. Growlev and J. -Roche; Loyal Heart of Friendship, P.P.G.M. L. C. MoLauchlan, P.G. Bro. J. Itiach and Bro. Holmes; Loyal Morven P.P.G.M., Bro. S. J. Bailey; Loyal Makikiln, 13ro. S. Dalziel. The Grand Master extended a welcome to the delegates, and then delivered his address, which was inspiring and instructive. , ' , ~, , It was decided that the fidelity bond of the secretary and treasurer bo increased to £IOO each. 1 The balances sheet and auditors' reports were adopted. After a good deal of discussion, it was decided to leavo tjio management levy at the same ’-ate as last year. A remit dealing with increased sickness contributions and benefits, to the effect that payment be 20s weekly for 12 months and 10s weekly thereafter was passod. It was resolved that now letters ol recommendatio.li bo procured in book form. , In regard to the re-arrangement ot the district and general rules, it was decided that the Prov. C.S. Bros. 1). 1). Petrie and P.P.G.M. Bro. A. Oborn go through the rules a.nd bring down a revised draft for consideration at, a special district meeting, at which the present delegates would attend. On the motion of P.P.G.M. - Bro. S. J. Bailey a hearty vote of-thanks was passed to the trustees for . their careful management of tho district funds. After discussion on the question ot representation on the South Canterbury Hospital Board, the following resolution was carried :—“That this meeting of the South Canterbury District M.U. 1.0.0. F., urges that the Friendly Societies' Council consider at an early date the advisability of nominating a candidate for tho next Hospital Board election." At this stage the delegates adjourned for tho district dinner, at the Stafford. Tho Past Grands’ Lodge was opened on resuming, and tho Purple Degree conferred on two of the brethren. After the business a very pleasant hour was spent in a social gathering, the occasion being to make a presentation and do honour to a highly esteemed lodge officer, Bro. Arthur Oborn. Bro. J. Simpson eulogised the good work of Bro. Oborn, and presented him with a P.P.G.M. Jewel, while P.P.G.M. Bro. Bailey asked bis acceptance of a go'd watch and chain from the OdTftellows of South Canterbury. For Mrs Oborn, P.P.G.M. Bro. McLiuichlan made a present-nt'on ol a silver tea-pot, also from the Oddfellows-of South Canterbury. The eulogistic remarks of these speakers were endorsed by Bro. Goedall, Crowley, Earl, Foden, Dulse!!, Beck, Petrie, and Duncan. Bro. Oborn suitably replied, and thanked all for their handsome gifts. After a musical programme was indulged in an adjourn merit was made to sup,iter, which' brought close a very pleasant evening.
