(From Our Own Corresponden.t) • HOSPITAL COMMITTEE. At the monthly meeting of the Hospital Committee there were present : Messrs W. Geddes (chair) G. Dash, J. T. Hay, R. H. White, and T. Brown. Apologies were received/ from Messrs Pollock, J. I. Hayman and R. Sinclair. The chairman, in his statement, said .that the receipts for tho past month wero £lB4 14s Bd, and accounts presented for payment totalled £7OB 0s 3d. The return of patients showed that 52 had been admitted and 47 discharged, leaving 37 in tho hospital. The Health Department advised that the minimum age at which nurses could obtain registration was now fixed at 22 years. The Hospital Board wrote advising tho Committee that tho account of Dr Ulrich for attendance on the late R. England should bo paid. It was, decided that the honorary medical staff be advised that in tho future, when medical assistance was required, from outsido Waimato the superintendent of tho baso hospital at Timaru should be communicated with and the t best possible arrangements made with him for assistance. For tho Finance Committee Mr Dash reported that the. financial position was unaltered. Expenses were still in excess of the estimate but the receipts were a) littlo better.

The steward reported having lodged .tlirep cases of distress. His action was approved. Dr Pitts reported that the work at the hospital had not been heavy during the past month. Two patients had been sent to the Suunysido Asylum. HOUSE COMMITTEE’S REPORT. Tho House Committee’s report was as follows. —“Consideration was given to the question of reorganisation of shelters alid it was resolved to recommend iliat they bo grouped in a row from the men’s sanitary annexe in a northerly direction, tho outer end of tho row to ho supported on high piles owning to the depression in the ground. The report of. the Health Officer on the drainage outfall was considered and it was agreed to recommend that the outfall main he tapped further back so as to give, a greater area of filtering. ground l . Complaints regarding tho quality of the coke supplied were made to the Committee and it was decided torecdmmeiid''that enquiries be made regarding tho 'price,- etc., of coke from Timaru. It was resolved to recommpnd the purchase of a’ “vacuum cleaner, and. the purcliaso of a drug cupboard with glazed sliding doors about 3 feet by 3 feet by .9 inches with two shelves andi lock,- also to purchase twelve chairs Ijor use in the, wards. The steward reported having sold’ four pigs toMr G., Herron, which* .were being lolled that day, and, he liad also sold the surplus seed potatoes;to, Mr A. Claridge. The statement of receipts and expenditure for the half year ending September 30 .was. as. follows: —Provisrions .for 0 months, £3100: cash payments to September SO, £3624 9s Id, pins transfer from grounds account £202 Is «d, making a. total of £3820 J,05.1 Oil, leaving £426 10s lOd overspent. Estimated receipts amounted to £9OO of which £784 15s 3d had been received leaving, a deficiency of £lls 4s 7d. The. estimated capital .expenditure amounted to C 241 2s Id, a difference of £2OB 17s lid unspent.
