Bignell, chairman of the Wanganui Harbour Board, to-night vigorously denounced, the attitude of the AVellington Harbour Board towards secondary ports. Referring to recent Wellington statemonts decrying Die practice of direct shipping to minor ports, Mr Bignell said that such remarks were pure propaganda. Figures showed the benefits to local producers, and imports through direct shipments to Wanganui were quoted. It was pointed out that the cost of transhipping cargo at Wellington to Wanganui, plus tho material saving effected by direct shipments through Wanganui, represented approximately £182,000 for a period of 21 months.
