THE CHAMPIONSHIP. The ladies’ South Canterbury championship was continued yesterday morning under most trying conditions. Bad as tho weather was, most of the competitors were on the tees at starting time. The weather cleared at midday, and after a change of clothes playors sallied forth again to take part m the first round of the championship. Tho first sixteen playors to qualify wilL play for the championship clip, presented by Mi‘3 E. G. Kerr, and tlio remainder for tho “Highficld trophy, presented to tho Ladies’ Club by the Timaru Golf Club. Tho following qualified for the championship on the two days’ play s~»
The following will play on. handicap for the Highfield Cup:—Mrs Webber, Misses Green, Lucas, and Cotterill, Mrs McLean, Mrs O’Leary, Misses McICerchar and ICnubley, Mrs Ensor, and Miss B. Fnssell. Tho best gross score yesterday was returned by bliss Gwitha Shand, Christchurch, tho best net score in tho A. grade medal match by Mrs Bannerman, and in the C. grade by Miss MoKerchar. A bogey handicap played in conjunction with the championships yesterday afternoon was won by bliss Parsons (A. grade) and Miss Baxter (B. grade).
