The wool sales have closed. There has been remarkably steady and active competition throughout the series, despite the miscellaneous character o£ the offerings. Continental buyers dominated the merinos, and also gave good support to me' diuni and fine crossbreds. There were numerous withdrawals of se-cond-hand speculators lots for which prices shown slight irregularities. The Home trade supported slips and clothing wools generally, also cheaper crossbreds, but Bradford was very reserved in merino and combing wool. The tone of the market indicated a general demand for wool. The sales closed in great confidence, at full opening rates. Compared with July closing sales, merino greasy was full 6 per cenc. up, and some of finer grades slightly more; scoureds 5 per cent. Crossbred medium were 10 per cent, up, and fine 5 per cent., and lower grades 7i to 10 per cent. Slipes and scoured showed 5 per cent, advance, and lambs and merinos 5 to 10 per cent. Crossbreds 5 per cent. The New Zealand clip “Fairfield ’ sold at 24d per lb.

At the wool sales, competition was strong and the best rates for the week were secured for most lines. Dusty fleece wools were p little irregular. Comebacks and crossbreds met with very strong competition at full late rates.
