Randolph Rose, the New Zealander, won the challenge match of two miles, at Brighton, against the southern four-mile champion, Muggridge. Rose won by inches in the last few yards. Time, 9min 33 3-ssec. Rose and Muggridge both started from scratch and keenly contested every step. They sprinted, all out, side by side over the last three hundred yards.
