An amending Bill providing for the payment of a basic wage of £4 5s to employees was gagged through all stages of the Assembly. The Minister of Works (Mr Kirwan) said the additional impost on industry would be £1,000,000, but he contended that the general prosperity ivas such that it could bear the increase. The Leader of the Opposition saia he looked upon the introduction of the Bill as a humiliation of -the Government. The degradation of the Arbitration Cburfc had been brought in because the Strike Council had die. tated to the Government.
