ENLARGING SPHERE OF CONSUL TATION. NEW SECRETARY APPOINTED. By Telegraph—Press Association, WELLINGTON, July 18. The Governor-General has received the following message from Mr L. S. Amery, on tho latter’s assumption, ol office as tho first Secretary of State for .Dominion Affairs : “1 should like to assure you and your Ministers of my earnest hope that the spirit of friendly co-operation, which now happily exists, should ho maintained and strengthened. My hope is that the effect of the new departure will be so to promote tho mutual understanding of our, common problems that the .sphere- of inter-communica-tion and consultation will be enlarged, with resulting good to the Empire as a, whole. As the first holder of the office of Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs, 1 shall be proud to work towards this object.’’ His Excellency lias replied: “My Ministers and I extend to you our warmest congratulations on your assumption of office as first Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs. We fee! sure that tho reorganisation which von have done so much to bring about, will result in still closer co-operation between tho Governments of the Empire in matters of common concern.. It .five's us a special sense of su.ti.siaction to know that the institution of this new office involves no change m the person cf tho Secretary of State whose devotion to the cause of imperial unity is ns well known here as it is in Great Britain.” _____
