Hairera, who has won several two-year-old. handicaps in the Sydney area, is owned by Mr V. Casey, of Auckland Hairera is a New Zealand-bred youngster, his sire being’ Heather Mixture. This year’s Grand Prix de Pans was worth 625,000 francs. At the old rate of exchange that would have been equivalent to £25,000 in English money. Now, however, with 104 francs going to the £, the English value of the race would be very little over £6OOO. It is stated that the term of suspension inflicted on the jockey, M; McCarten, and the trainer, .F. D. Jones, will expire two days prior to the opening of the Grand National meeting. McCarten will probably ride for F. Tilley’s stable again next season. The new railway regulations for the transport of racehorses find great favour with trainers, who are now able to book a horse to any destination, in cither the North or the South Island, after which the Railway Department takes complete charge, attending to all details, not only railway a-nd steamer travel, but also carting the necessary gear and feed at all stages of the journey.
