A letter was received " from Mr Lang, socretary of the Tiinaru Branch of tno Labour Party, enclosing capitation fee for the year. Correspondence Was received from Mr Cairns, secretary of the Amalgamated Society of Carpenters and Joiners, tendering his resignation as a delegate to the L.R.C.; also stating that lus branch had donated £25 to the National Appeal Fund, also 10s to the Franklyn by-election fund. The secretary was instructed to reply stating that the resignation was accepted with regret, and thanking the Branch for their donation to the Appeal Funds. A good deal of correspondence was received from Mr Nash (National Secretary), stating that Mr P. H. Hickey had been appointed Political Organiser for the Otago and Southland districts, and also for the Waitaki electorate; and asking the Timaru L.R.C. to cooperate with Mr Hickey in organising Waitaki.

The secretary also stated that the Watcrsido Workers’ Federation’s capitation fees had boon paid to tho National Office, and they were now entitled to liavo delegates on the L.R.O. The resident executive officer reported that he had received a communication from the National Secretary stating that: —“It was decided that the resolution dealing with membership of members of the Communist Party in branches of tlio Labour Party, passed on May 18 by rino resident members of tho executive, and subsequently endorsed by the remainder of the National Executive; and tho resolution defining tho status of members of the Communist Party appointed as delegates to the L.R C.’s passed on May 22 by the resident members, and subsequently endorsed by tho whole of tho National Executive, bo forwarded to all the parties affiliated, with instructions that tho decision be put into operation forthwith.” Membes of the Communist Party are not eligible to remain as members of any branch of the New Zealand Labour Party. Considerable discussion took on the unemployment question, and it was again urged that unless they registered at the Labour Department Office very little could be expected from tho Government to relieve the situation. A resolution of protest was passed against tlve Government emigration system while so much unemployment and the housing shortage exist in the Dominion, and a copy of same is to ho forwarded to the Prime Minister, the leader of the Parliamentary Labour Party, and the local M.P. Tlio n/Ivisabilitv of procuring a Trades Hall for Timaru was fully discussed, and was recommended to all organisations affiliated for consideration, and for report at a future meeting.
