PURDY RETURNS

The New Zealand light-weight boxer Charlie Purdy, accompanied by his trainer (H. Donovan), returned to Auckland last week. Touching Purdy’s fight with Jimmy Allen at the Sydney Stadium, when the pair fought a draw, Sir Donovan (giid tho Aucklander’s showing was a long way below his best form as shown in some of his contests in tho Dominion. The majority of the boxing writers decided in favour of Purdy, and gave him credit for being a fast and clever boxer, but apparently this did not appeal to the crowd, who preferred to have their money’s worth in K.O.’s. Purdy and his trainer were disappointed, and considered that in only Raving five days in Sydney before being called upon to fight Purdy had nothing in his favour. After the contest with Allen, the Aucklander was offered two fights in Brisbane against Hinks and Paul Demsky, but not being satisfied with his showing against Allen, both Purdy and his trainer decided to return to the Dominion and get ready to oppose Hughie Dwyer on August 24, at Auckland.
