(From Our Own Correspondent). PRESENTATIov tq ATI! A. E. FOOTE. Air A. E. Foote, who left Tomuka for AVunganui on Thursday, was met prior to his departure by a number ot residents for the purpose ot making linn a presentation of a silver ©versharp pencil. Air E. Booth said that Mi Foote was held in high respect m lomuka, and hud proved himself a citizen of no meun order. For the past four years Air Foote had been secretary ot the School Committee, aiid had also field a secretarial position m the Methodist Church, and iu both these capacities, ho had shown exceptional ability. The spreaker hoped that Mr Foote would have every prosperity in AVanganni. Mr E. B. Cooper also spoke of Air Foote’s sterling qualities, alter which Mr Foote suitably replied.

EUCHRE TOURNAAIENT. On Thursday evening the “AVaitea” 1.0.0. F., “KeOckali” Bordgo held a euchre tournament and dance in , tho Parish Hall, Temuka. There were about ninety ladies and gentlemen present, and a very enjoyable evening was spent. The principal prizes were won by Airs H. R. Woodham and Air AL. O’Connor, the consolation going to Airs A. Ackroyd and Air AL Robertson. After a delicious supper dancing was indulged in, music being supplied by Aliss M. Colville and extras were played Aliss E. Higinbottom. Air J. Elder made a capable AI.C. ‘The mutual effort of the ladies’ lodges was very successful and they are to be congratulated on the pleasing result. TENNIS AND CROQUET:

The Tenuis and Croquet Club brought the season to a close on AA’ednesctuy last by a croquet progressive tournament tor a trophy donated by Mrs M. It. McLeod. A large number of players took part, and after an interesting afternoon play Miss Bremner was adjudged the winner. After afternoon tea had been dispensed, the president, Air AYarne Pearse, presented the trophies won during the year, and thanked the donors and all who had assisted in making the season so successful. Trophies were won by the following, names of the donors being in parentheses:—Golf croquet (Club), Mrs Smart; golf croquet (Aliss Carsweil) Airs McLeod ;■ Yankee tournament for “A” players (Airs Fraser) Airs It. Lee; Yankee tournament for “B” players (Airs Sheen) Airs T. E. Sliiels; scaled handicap doubles (Aliss Brown and Aliss Lee), Airs AlcLeod and Airs Salmon. Alesdanies Smart, Alcßride and Aspinall also donated trophies during the season, these being won by Aliss Carswiell, Airs Austin, and Airs Routledge. In the tennis section Aliss Elder and Air Alerrimaii won the handicap doubles for which trophies were given by Air Lyons and AAmrno Pearse:

NOTES; The Maori Spoils Club will hold a dance in the Arowhenua Hall on tho evening of Tuesday next. On Thursday, May Bth, the Caledonian Society will hold a Cinderella dance in the Prill Hall. The blacksmiths of Teinuka will observe Saturday half-holiday as from 10th inst. The erection of a. new library at Temuka to replace the presentdilapidated structure, is now within the possibility of being accomplished tluough the generosity of Mr T; O. Burnett, M.P; Some time ago Mr Burnett made an offer of £SOO (spread over three annua instalments) to the committee, coupled with the condition that a hall should be included in tho building containing u photographic record of the early pioneers of tho district and the men of Temuka who went on active servieo in the Great War. Unfortunately members of the committee found if difficult to comply with these conditions, and last night they met Mr Burnett at Temuka and explained the matter fully to him, with the result that Mr Burnett made his offer unconditional. A systematic canvass of tho dislrict is to be made for subscriptions, and a committee consisting of tho president (Mr <T. T. Smart), .Mr Salmon, and Mr W. Hughes, was appointed to wait upon the Geraldine* County Council and Iho 'lemuka Bor ougb. Council, to put the matter he I ore them.-
