: MEETING OF TOWN BOARD. At a meeting of the Town Board, the following Commissioners were present: —Mr J7 Maze (chairman), A. Chislom W. B. Oborn, W. Cox, and W. f. Barker. - . . .

A concert and dance was held in the Oddfellows' Hall on Thursday evening in honour of nineteen of the Point boys who had done their duty and had returned from the front. Part of the evening was taken.by a concert, singers going out from Timaru. Those who took part in the concert were: Mr S. -Anderson, Mi- Lowry and Miss Davidson, the accompaniments being played by Miss Norrish.

After the concert Mr John Maze took the chair and called on all the returned men to mount the platform. The chairman said he was sorry to see such a wet night after the Patriotic Society had arranged for a big gathering, and he apologised for several of the men who were unavoidably absent; soineswere in the north and some were in the south, but owing to the train arrangements it was impossible for them all to be with them that evening. He welcomed the boys back to Pleasant Point and wished them long life and happiness. Mr E. R. Guinness then addressed the gathering. Mr Guinness, who was greeted with hearty applause, said he was very pleaseld that he had been asked to take part in the welcome home to the boys. He was also very pleased indeed with the Point Patriotic Society tor the large amount of work they had done since the war started, and in the way the district had sent its men away and was welcoming them home again P<^V Pa ! ri< l tic Societ y was a credit to boutn Cantei-bui-y. Mr Guinness then welcomed the boys back and wished them long hf e and happiness.
