The King received deputations from' the London County Council, Nonconformist Ministers, and English Presbyterian Church Ministers, and each presented an address to the King congra-. tulalting him upon the signing of Peace. The King, replying (to the County Council said: "It rests with us to build up a new world to replace the shattered fabric of the old world. The wakened consciousness of the nation demands new developments, and the removal of many grave defeats in the social system." _ In. referring to lionising, BCs Majesty emphasised his earnest desire that nothing shouf'd be left undone to realise better ideals in home life, this alone making it possible ito secure real improvement in social conditions. Ho was also convinced that there Was nothing more essential to national prosperity and happiness than' education —-true education, developing to the fullest extent the spiritual, and physical potentialities of every member of the. community. This would transform i> ational ■ life in a generation.
