At the Seton inquest Rutherford was not present., Sir Malcolm Seton gave evidence that 'Major Seton on the night of the 30th was in unusually good spirvts. Lady Seton gave evidence that during Sir Malcolm's absence Rutherford was restless. She heard the click of a pistol, and shouted: "Put that down. Come over harp.". Rutherford cbeyed and promised not to touch it, adding: "I would not promise if it wore any use to me."

A doctor gave evidence that there" were fourteen bullet- wounds in the body, fired at very close quarters, "Major Miles Charles Carisbon Seton, C.8., M.8., CM., F.R.C.S., was born in 1874, and was the eldest son of the late William Garden Seton, c£ Cariston and Treskerbv. AUCKLAND, Jan.- 21. ■ • - At the police court to-day Albert Victor Morine, of Naike, near Ngaruawahia, was committed for trial ori.« a' charge of murdering'his baby girl, Joan Morine. The baby's" 'eyes were both gouged out on 'October 23' last, and medical evidence showed that death ■ was due to shock. • Accused, who behaved in a peculiar nianner in court, has recently, been detained in Avondale mental hospital. - .. . A LAZY POSTMAN. INVERCARGILL, Jan. 21. Michael Stanley Dawson; 16 years of age, was committed_ for' sentence' for having failed to deliver nostal packages while he was postal official at Edendale. It was stated that 301 letters were found in a sack in an old well at his lodgings.
