COUNT LUCKNER'S ESCAPE.
CLAIM BY OWNERS OF SCOW. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Dec. 19. The Leyland O'Brien Timber Co., tne owners of the scow Moa. are petitioning Parliament for relief, for the Joss sustained through the forcible stknre of, the vessel by Count von Luckier and other German prisoners of war who escaped from Motuihi last December. The petition states that Luckner and his men jettisoned a portion of the cargo of timber valued at £304 3s lOd, a coil of wire rope valued at £53 2g sd, and 45 fathoms of cable valued at £59 10s 7d. It is also claimed that upon inspection in Auckland after the recapture., it was ascertained that tlie vessel had dbeen severely strained, to rectify which cost the owners £2SS 16s sd. "and the sum of £405, it is claimed, was lost by the owners as a. result of the dislocation of their business through the temporary loss of +ho Moa. The petitioners point out that the prisoners of w.twero interned by tho Government, and state that iFie commandant of the internment- caino allowed them without reasonable excuse to escape
