Sergt-Major Chappell is at present on. leave in Timarn, and trill return to Trentham on Tuesday.
Senior-Sergeant E. Egan, of Tiraaru, if- at present in Christchurch attending the present: sitting of the Supreme Court. He was a witness in the assault and TobWry ease which was tried there this week. Sergeant Egan was stationed in Greymouth when the crime against the Chinaman concerned was committed.
On Thursday last after their matcn the members of the Genaldine Football Ciub made a presentation to one 01 their number, TV*. Larcombe, who is leaving for the training camp. Mr Hansen, in presenting Mr Larcombe with a shaving set and case of pipes, expressed the hope that he would upset the Germans as much as he had dene his opponents in the football field. Mr D. MacGregor also spoke and wished the departing man good lnek.
A social gathering organised by lady members of the chair of the Gex-aldine Parish Church was held on Thursday Evening in honour of Mr T. Hughes, who has resigned the position of choirmaster, which ho had held for the past Ess years, and a presentation of a handsomely bound hymn book was made by Canon Hamilton on behalf of the choir members. Sir Hughes, in acknowledging the present, said he was sure they Would give to his successor, Mr E. White, the support and assistance they had given him.
