FAIRLIE.
FAREWELL TO HE ADMASTETI. On Tuesday evening the members i of the Eairlie school, committee entertained Mr' Clarke, headmaster, at Mrs Harper's Tea. ltooms, tor the purpose of saying good-bye to him, prior to his departure for l'ieasant Point. Mr C. J. Talbot presided, and congratulated Mr Clarke 011 his promotion. The speaker i-'poko highi'y of Mr Clarke s ability as a teaclier, and mentioned the splendid manner in which ho had worked with the committdto. He was i>roud ot' the efficient state of the school, and took it as a compliment to Eairlie school tint Mr Clarke had keen selected for this promotion. He thou asked jYTv Clarko to accept a small token ot the esteem ill which ho was held ' y the members of "tho committee. Messrs. Binney, Eodeu, Lack. Smith and Saunders also spoke, ami alt wished Mr and Mrs Clarke every success in their new sphere. Several members spoke gratefully of the able assistance so cheerfully rendered by Mrs Clarke, who did her very best to second her husband's : efforts to further the interests of the school.
3\lr Clarke was made the recipient of a handsome wallet, inscribed, in gold. In returning thanks Mr Clarke expressed Ill's gratitude for tho many kind remarks and hoped ihe school would continue to prosper. Til the future it might be a larger school than the Point, but he wished to gain experience in a District .High School, talcing a rural course, and the present opportunity seemed to l>o what he thought a fine one. He was very sorry to leave FairHe. where he had spent a. pleasant'time in healthy surroundings.
