For several months the Union Company has found the trade between Auckland and the Eastern Pacific Islands of an unpayable nature, and latterly it- lia? decreased to such an extent a-i not to warrant the services of a passenger steamer or a vessel or the capacity of the Tahuio- Owing to these reasons it has become necessary to replace the Talnne by a smaller vessel, and the Flora has now been ■commissioned in this service. It will bo remembered that the Taviuni was recently engaged in thk run, and, in view of certain representations'made to t-'.!e Union Company, the Tahine was put back azain for several trips, but the results have not justified her coniir unnce, _ and she has now been definitely withdrawn.
