Rattray's Otaio, who put up a 6plend,d pertoxmanoe. The "well-known Timaru hunter, Dr C. E. Thomas's Puzzler, canw second in this event, and he ran third in the Taliy-Ho Steeplechase. Tho trophies won during the afternoon wore prosented by Mrs J. B. Bowker, wifo of tho Master of tho Runt, and at the nose of these proceedings ckoere were given for the winners of tho trophies, for tho Waimato Hunt, and for the Master and his wife.

The only starters. After a little delay at the past the trio got well away, Sturm be.ng the slowest to move. Bay Lupiii assumed the. lead followed by Freak, with Storm some little oistance behind. So they raced for tlio first round, when Storm, who jumped clumsily, fell back beaten. Approaching the home turn Freak bogan to move up to Bay Lnpin, but tho latter was first over tho last obstacle. Coning down tho straight there was a keen struggle for tupreiaaey. The Barucra. gelding held Ids own until within a hundred yards of tho post when Freak caught him and claimed the verdict by a liead. The pace however, had been too hot for luin and when challenged by Craigdugald lie fell b::ck to second place. Overlander broke np in the last round, and though Bugle> again caught CraigdugaM, it was only momentarily, and the latter responding gamely to the final call made on him, won easily b'v a fitreot. Otaio."was tho first to show in front, followed by Tairiki and Uncle Tom in that order. By the time the stand was. reached Puzzler had displaced Uncle Toni who was not up to his usual form. In th* - second round Tairiki and Otaio rtill held command, w.th Puzzler closer t; them, and Uncle Tom failing back. Entering the last round Tairiki was jn front, but at the back of the course Otaio, who was in great form, went to the front agajn. Then Puzzler ! closed on'Tairiki who rolled orer at I the second to last jump. The finish was fought out between Otaio .nnd Puzzler, the former, gaining the Verdict with half a dozen lengths to spare. Time 5.32.

Percy showed the way for the first tlireequarters of a mile, whan Blucher went to the front, but fell at the brush jurup at the back of the course, Phantom and Apple Pie then took up the running, this taking the double in front of the stand gcther on the second round. Going out of the straight for the final round Apple Tie went to the front and led to the hoitte turn, wheu Phantom caught and passed hini, winning iv half a dozen lengths.
