The Registrar-General's report on Irelaud for 1910 shows that the births exceeded the deaths by 27,069, and that the loss by emigration was 321,457. Tho decrease in tuberculosis mortality is steadily maintained. HEAT WAVE AND FIRES. The temperature has exceeded 80deg. for eight days in succession. A heath fire five and a half miles long swept the Surrey Hills, tltreatening a sanatorium and dwellings. Five hundred troops despatched from Aldershot cut down a belt of trees, thus averting the danger. INTERNATIONAL ARBITRATION. ' NEW YORK, August 16. The Foreign Affairs Committeo, in reporting to the Senate on the AngloAmerican treaty, characterised it as a breeder of war and not as a maker of peace. CLOUD OF BUTTERFLIES. At Siason, California, butterflies in countless millions invaded a baseball field, stopped the game, and drove the spectators into shelter. Automobile traffic was stopped as the drivers were unable to see where they were going. ILLNESS OF THE POPE. ROME, August 15. The Pope passed a restless night. Ho is suffering from pain in his knee and his temperature rose and fell, but he was better this morning.
