The chair - «a congratulated the members on the -m l —T of hut show, thanks largely to the jMßstance of a committer of ladies. A ' fjnrtifying- feature was the increase in the *«anber of subscribing members, -and he Steped there wooid be a still larger inereaaa «asiii"g the current year. With thanks to aW«»mmittee for their »ympathy with him n Jus accident, and for their courtesy and antstamce during the year, Mr Schmidt aiawed the adoption, of the documents. Mr Knowle* and Mr Wallace spoke of As balance sheet as very satisfactory, the fatter dwelling upon the aucceaa of the inamalion of inducing the ladies to assist the committee. The experiment had been m> aoccesaful that it should be repeated. 3£r Wilson, expressed the pleasure of »"»l«ti ai seeing Mr Schmidt back in bis jriboe. Last year, he reminded them, the Society was under a cloud, ' financially; memr they had the silver lining towards Una in a credit balance of £23, and a aaambara* roll' of ISO. He also recognised lbs value of the help given by the ladies la*s year. Mr T. D. Young added hisr congratulations, and suggested that they had been «amed by changing the date of the show. M<o would Kke to see a chrysanthemum ahev in the winter, and that would give them the four seasons represented; with Urn bulb show of the Anglican Church and *3se rose show of the Presbyterians. Suc■csMfial as the last show was, it was certainly faulty in the staging. If possible -the staging should be erected and marked «ff "the day before, and much confusion wreald therby be avoided. Mr Young rise* rffered some further criticisms on the tias- / t«ffica±ion arrangements, and pleaded for mare room for the children's -exhibits, a snoot important section, of the show. Mr Sealey thought the crowding ' acd ■smfaaioa were largely due to receiving en4r*e» tSS the night before the show. At Dwnedin entries had to be made four Vsys 4e&re the show; but two days should be He considered 180 members £i»d for Timara compared with the 480 -of Dunedia; and the southern society had sssly £3O in hand, as against this Society's £25.

Tie chairman thanked Mr Young for lis criticisms, and the committee would *rjr to apply his suggestions. Tha conSmdou complained of was due chiefly to lie,, number of entries jumping up from about 500 to over 800. Mrs CosteHo handed! up a balaice stieefe wf a society in a much smaller c--ire, Sooowhenna, ■with a membership of ISC, and members had to pay entry fwa too. anui she suggested that this rale might 3>e adopted here. JTkt, chairman doubted -whether this Sc<at/bf dare undertake- to require nembei-\ *» pay entry fees, after 35 years of »rte

Mr Cross thought they would not get «BBa»BeMh%'subscriptiona if people had to jaagr emrry fees. Mr Wallace said some societies limited S3» number of free entries, and he had -iwi mi mended some such course. Mm CosteHo said the members could be aSowed to enter at half rates. T Mx Beswkk pointed out that the rules «jould not be altered without notice, and i» advocated waiting another year before I making any-radical-change. Mrs CosteHo. claimed that she had given a*ctice by moving at the last meeting, when she was told «fte must wait till 'this meeting. Mr Wilson remarked that they were teeaking rules all along, and pointed out several instances of this, to the' great •masemexxt of the members. After further discussion it was decided that the rules could not be altered, ac«rding to the rules themselves, at this "■Mrtißg, without which had not Jwe» givea.
