INFANT LIFE PROTECTION.
DR TRUBY'S KING'S WORKy. ".< Per Press Association. . DUNEDIN,. May, 17. At the annual meeting of the Dunedip centre of the St. John Ambulance Association, while the work of the district nurse was being discussed, Dr Barnett said that the work of the district nurse was mainly with the old and helpless, but" what about infants on,the threshold of life who were practically poisoned by improper feeding? He. warmly .eulogised Dr Truby .King's timely efforts in this direction.... .With whole-hearte'cl enthusiasm Dr King was at present put.of his own pocket, paying ai nurse to go.round among the people of;the district, especially the poor, to show the proper method of feeding infants. He was not only paying the nurse, but \providing the requisites necessary. That was generous on. Dr King's part, /but it should not be allowed to continue; and Dr Barnett advocated that the Association should take over the nurse. He thought the Premier would support such a scheme by/a subsidy. Dr Will said that a scheme such as was suggested had been drawn up. and as a result of the correspondence with the Premier and Dr'King it was proposed to appoint three nurses and he had asked for a subsidy of 24s in £ on money subscribed. He hoped .to have an answer Seddon -on his return from Australia.
