PERTH, July 3. .'A belated passenger by the steamer -MarloOj in trying to climb on board by means of a rope, was crushed to death between, the vessel and 5 the wharf. He sustained fearful injuries. . SERIOUS TRAP-TRAM COLLISION. 1 Per Press Association. I AUCKLAND, July 3. j To-day, while the Bishop of North Queensland was-, in a trap with the Rev. G. A.Carver, they met with a rather serious accident. There was a good: deal of tram- ; way traffic at-Bonsonby reservoir corner, [and, the trap had to thread its way through. > Owing to some .obstacle being in; the way r th : e horse swerved, and a tram which was coming along- at the time ran right into the trap, the Bishop and Mr Carver being thrown over the back of it on to the road. Assistance was soon at hand; and'doctors were in attendance. .Mr .Carver escaped with a severe shaking; i Bishop-Frodshan wis more seriously hurt, having received a severe scalp wound, apd he has been ordered to Temain perfectly quiet-foraweek. AU ; his. engagements hav& been, cancelled. Great.sympathy will be felt for the Bishop, 'inasmuch' as 'he intended to preach on Sunday, and. make special appeals for assistance for his devastated diocese.
CHRISTCHURCH, July 3.
At- the inquest on the body of Maurice Wheian. the jury returned a verdict that deceased was accidentally killed by a railwav engine. striking him on the head end that no Wame was attachable to anyone. Deceased was last seen alive about' Lalfpast 5 o'clock on Wednesday night on the public road, about 400 yards hem where his body was found. He <hen appeared to be under the influence of drink, though several witnesses stated that they had never seen him drunk. When spoken to on the occasion when he was, last seen, he did not reply. A cleaner at the railway'station found blood on the of Wednesday afternoon's train from (>1: verden. The driver of the train did not notice any person on the line,at the spot where the accident occurred.
DUNEDIN, July 3. A young man named H3l was' seriously injured in the Kaitarigata coal mine _todav. through going to a fall too soon after a shot had been fired. A portion 'r-f the face fell on bim, and he was so injured about the head that his recovery is very doubtful.
INVERCARGILL, July 3. A farmer named Barnard Mullihs fell from an upstairs window at the Junction Hotel during Wednesday night. ■ __ He was picked ap unconscious, and with both wrists broken, en Thursday morning, and removed to the hospital, where he died todav. . -■ . '■•
