Dr Wilkins, in his evidence, emphatically denied tne charge, and witnesses werecalled for the defence for tho purpose of accounting for the hours in the afternoon during which the operation was alleged to- | have been, performed. [ After several hours' retirement the jury announced that they could not agreo, and wore discharged. The case will be re-heard at the noxt aittings of the Supremo Court. WELLINGTON, August 20. George Kelly and Edward Creasy were found guilty of tho theft, of a l'iiig f ro,n " woman, and not guilty of intimidation. They were remanded for sentence. DUNEDIN, August 20. A case in which great interest was taken by all connected with dredging was concluded in the Supreme Court to-day, after extending over three days. lhc case was Cutten Bros., consulting engineers, v. the ' Globe Gold Dredging Company, 1o recover £ll3 8s 6d commission, to which a counter claim was put in. Cutten Bros, had engaged to prepare plans for tho removal and re-erection of a current wheel dredge, which was afterwards converted into a steam dradge, from the Molyneux to Wnikaka. The counter claim was for alleged negligence on the part of plaintiffs, whereby defendants suffered to the extent of £450, which sum was claimed as n. set-off. The alleged negligence included the delaying of plans, by which time was

lost; want of proper supervision, and not including various things in the specifications. It was stated but not proved during the case that engineers declined .to give evidence for defendants. lhe jury gave a verdict for the Globe Company in the claim and counter ciaint. giving £o damages in tne latter. Judgment wa3 entered up with costs, but execution was stayed for ten days in order to move lor a- new trial, and that tts verdict was against the weight of evidence.
