TIMARU BEAUTIFYING ASSOCIATION.
To the Editor of: the " Timaru Herald." Sir, —I am glad 'to see that you have on several occasions encouraged the above named association in. its efforts to improve the town. The apathy shown by our townspeople seems to me to be extraordinary. The model citizen is he who looks to the future welfare of the city, and the Association in a sinalfr way is doing its share in improving the town from an artistic point of view. The annual meeting of the Association called for last Thursday, on account of the insufficient nuiiiber of members turning up, was postponed until to-night. Surely the members cam spare one hour in the year to support and encourage the Association, in its unselfish work. The old saying that " Rome was not built in a day" applies here, and we hope to see Timaru made, through our yearly efforts, ail object of beauty worthy of its natural surroundings. I am, etc., N. K. COX.
