THE RAINCLIFF BUSH.
To the Editor of the " Timaru Herald." Sir, —At the psk- of taring your editorial 'patience witli respect to a subject which may not appear to you olf much public importance, I beg you will allow me space toj add a few words to those of " Sylvanus " and " Anti-Vandal." It is to be regretted that. spots of beauty and interest, such as the BainclifF bush, have not been reserved by the Government for the benefit of the public, and especially in a district where the majority of the inhabitants hardly know what native bush is like. The desire of the absentee owner of the bush in question to protect it from injury is praiseworthy, but the attitude he has assumed is somewhat ungracious and unreasonable, and I-certainly do not think that a public body is justified in closing such right of access as the public have to so picturesque a spot. " I am, etc., ARBOREUS.
