TIMARU ROWING CLUB
The annual general meeting of the Timaru Rowing Club was held m the (irosvenor Hotel last evening. Th^re was a good attendance, and m the unavoidable absence of the president (Dr Bowf), Mi- W. Mackenzie was called on io preside. As ;ill had seen the balance sheet it was taken es read, r.nd adopted without comment on the motion of Messrs Turnbuli and Bilton. The boats were m good order, and assets exceeded liabilities by £131 13s sd, Fifty-eight members were ou the list. New members were elected after a vote as follows : —P. Sealey, A. Knubley, D. Shaw, K. Kennedy, A. Lane, J. A. Macdonald, S. Shrimpton, U. Dalgleish, T.>. Macintosh, H. Tennent, H. Fra^er, J. Cook, K. W. Marshall and L. Hayter. This was looked upon as a good sign for a very successful season. The election of 'officera then took place as follows :— President (re elected unanimou^ty), Dv Bowe ; vice-presidents — Messrs R. R. Taylor, R. H. Ferguson, W. 8. Lindsay, and J. P. Newman ; captain—Mr VV. Mackenzie (re-elected) ; deputy-captain— Mr D C Turnbuli (reelectel); secretary — Mr T. Aimera ; treasurer—Mr T. Mackenzie; committee - Mpssrs South, Tripp, McHobie, Wright, Douglass ; delegate— Mr A. G. Johnson, Wellington (re-elected). Mr L. VV. Douglass, the retiring secretary, was accorded a most hearty vote of thanks. A letter was read from Mr W. S. Lindsay, bringing the following suggestion before the Club : He would be very glad to give a silver cup for swimming under the following conditions : a handicap distance commencing at 50 yards and increasing every race up to 440 yards, swimming at least once ev^ry month during the season, the cup to become the property of the member who has won It most times diiring the season. This generous offer was referred to the committee ; as also was the question of opening day. On the motion of Mr Douglass very hearty thanks were accorded all who had assisted the club m aoy way. Mr Turnbuli, speaking ef finance, said that there were several members very dilatory m paying their subscriptions, and he showed that if payment was made promptly the club would greatly benefit. A vote of thanks to the chairman closed an enthusiastic meeting.
