AROWHENUA TOWN BOARD.
«. The monthly meeting of the Arowhenua Town Board was held on Wednesday evening; There were present — Mes&rs J . Ashwell (chairman), E. Carr, E. Brown, A. Frew, and A. Russell. Correspondence was read as follows : — From Mr George Hooper, requesting the removal of his name from the roll aud the substitution of that of Mr E. Mackenzie.— Agreed to. From Mrs Mary Downs, requesting that the name of T. C. Jowns be substituted for hers upon the roll. — Agreed to. From the clerk of the Gerald ine Town Board and the clerk of the Waimate Board, concerning the Board's claim upon the Survey Department m respect of levels. From Mr W. L. Duncan, claiming £10 as damages through surface water backing up on his property .-^The claim was not entertained. From the Geraldiue County Council, enclosing forms to be filled m showing the receipts and expenditure of the Board for the year ending March 31st, 1896. From the Assistant Controller and Auditor-General, returning the Board's balance-sheets duly certified. Mr Burton waited on the, Board m reference to the scour caused by the creek being dammed by a footbridge erected by Mr Matihgley.— The overseer was instructed to report. Mr O'Mara waited upon the Board and explained why he had not resumed shingle carting. He would start work again on Monday. The overseer reported generally upon work done, and suggested that it should be compulsory to have proper culverts erected over water-tables where residents required accest to their premises for wheeled traffic — It was resolved that it be ' a recommendation to the incoming Board to pass a regulation upon the lines suggested by the overseer, -Accounts amounting to £25 4s lid were passed for payments. At the close of the meeting Mr Russell moved that the Board record upon its minutes its appreciation of the manner m which the chairman liad conducted the business of the Board throughout his term of office. . Mr Frew and other members endorsed the mover's remarks, and the motion was carried. The chairman briefly returned thanks. He had to thank his colleagues for their support. He also desired to express the Board's perfect satisfaction with the manner m which the clerk had fulfilled his duties, The clerk responded, and the Board rose.
