THE CYCLISTS' ALLIANCE.
(By Telegraph.) [ CHRISTCHURCH, September 10.- [ The annual meeting of the Cyclists' r Alliance was held to-night. The report g stated that during the year three new t clubs had been affiliated and the number 8 now was 28. The balauce-sheet showed v a credit of £9 19s 2d. The Waikato a Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club v affiliated to the Union. t The officers elected for the ensuing § year were :— President, Mr Wynn-Wil p liamß : vice-presidents, the presidents g of all the affiliated clubs ; secretary, Mr s J. C. Cusack. The following reinstatements were E made :— S. D.. Fawson, Dunedin, and C. t D. L. Dumaiiesq, Christchurch. t An application was received from the j Auckland Cycling Club to rnn cycling j championships m Auckland m February g next. The question was held over for a \ month. r A gold medal was presented to Mr H. \ Thompson, of the Pioneer Bicycle Club, t who had broken all the Alliance stand- f ards and records from one- mile to 25 t miles. . r The following standards were adopted : } on cinder or clay tracks :—t mile, lmin c 6sec ; 1 mile, 2min 16sec ; 1£ mile, 3min a 27sec ; 2 miles, 4min 38sec ; 3 miles, i 7nain lOsec ; 5 miles, 12min 30sec ; 10 miles, 24min 40sec ; 25 miles, 1 hour a 3min. On asphalt, cement, or wood ( tracks — £ mile, lmin lsec ; 1 mile, 2min ] Bsec ;1? mile, 3min 15see , 2 miles, 4nain v 22sec ; 3 miles, 6min 45sec ; 5 miles, } llmin 40sec ;10 miles, 23tnin 20sec ;25 t miles, 59min 30sec r Section E of the amateur definition c was amended to permit clubs or the i Alliance to pay the travelling expenses of members competing at meetings. A letter was received from the New South Wales CJnion, asking the New ( Zealand Union if they would co-operate ( m inviting a representative English j amateur rider to visit the colonies, and f m return sending to England the best available amateur rider chosen from j New South Wales, Victoria, Queens- , land and New Zealand. The New Zealand Union were invited to send two representatives to the meetings j on October 3rd and sth, to compete m the test races over half a ( mil* 1 , one mile, three, five and ten-mile distances, to carry with them the amateur championships of Australasia, and the winner of the greatest number to be the representative. The New South Wales Union would allow £100 towards the expenses of the English tour. It was decided to ask E. Reynolds, of Auckland, if he would be prepared to go to Sydney, and the matter was left m the hands, of the executive.
